KUTZTOWN, PA (June 22, 2010) – Kutztown University head football coach Raymond Monica has announced the Golden Bears' 2010 football schedule. Included in the 11-game slate are six home contests, four night games and three new Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover opponents. (CLICK HERE FOR COMPLETE 2010 SCHEDULE)
Kutztown starts the season with a pair of home games against Saint Anselm College on Saturday, September 4 and Mercyhurst College on Saturday, September 11. This will be the third straight season that the Golden Bears and Hawks have opened the season against each other. Kutztown is 2-0 all time against Saint Anselm, claiming a 35-0 victory in 2008 and 17-13 decision in 2009.
The Golden Bears begin PSAC crossover play against Mercyhurst at University Field. It will be the first meeting between Kutztown and Mercyhurst. That contest will begin at 6:05 p.m. Kutztown will be on the road the following week when it visits Lock Haven in a game beginning at 7 p.m. It will be the first meeting between KU and LHU since a 30-10 Golden Bear victory in 2010.
Kutztown begins Eastern Division play against Cheyney on Saturday, September 25, at O'Shields Stevenson Stadium. The Golden Bears defeated the Wolves 35-21 last year and own a 17-game winning streak against Cheyney.
Kutztown returns home to host reigning PSAC champion Shippensburg on Saturday, October 2. It will be the first of four home games in the month of October for the Golden Bears. Kutztown lost 26-22 to the Red Raiders last season.
After a visit to NCAA Atlantic Region playoff participant East Stroudsburg on Saturday, October 9, Kutztown returns home for three consecutive games. Kutztown hosts Millersville on Saturday, September 16 for its homecoming contest starting at 1 p.m. A complete list of homecoming activities will be available at a later date. The Golden Bears dropped tough overtime contests to each East Stroudsburg (26-20) and Millersville (41-35, 2OT) last season.
The Golden Bears host C.W. Post (Saturday, October 23) and West Chester (Saturday, October 30) in a pair of games beginning at 6:05 p.m. Kutztown will celebrate Senior Day against West Chester. The Golden Bears end the season with two road games in November when they conclude PSAC East Division play at perennial power Bloomsburg on Saturday, November 6, and Gannon on Saturday, November 13.
