Arbogast pitches Golden Bears to two wins

CLERMONT, FL (March 9, 2010) - Katlin Arbogast tossed a complete game gem in a 8-0 win over Saint Joseph's and worked near-perfect long relief in a 7-6 come from behind win over Post University on Tuesday afternoon.

The dominance by Arbogast has been a constant this season, but it was the Golden Bear offense coming to life that helped gain the sweep.

In the shutout win over the Puma's, the one through seven hitters each recorded a RBI, five batters had multiple hits and five went for extra bases.

Maria Schiavo and Nicole Colineri each went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, an extra base hit and an RBI. The only difference between the two was Schiavo's extra went for a triple, while Colineri's was a double.

Michelle McGinty had a single, double and two RBIs. Krista Tedjeske finished with two hits, including a home run.

Arbogast fired her fourth complete game in the past five contests and recorded her first shutout of the season. She scattered three hits and struck out 11, her fifth game in double figures.

In the second game, the Golden Bears batted around in the fifth to rally from a 4-1 deficit. Heather Hannum led off with a double and scored on a single by Jennifer Stow. Schiavo advanced Stow to third and Colineri scored her with a sacrifice. McGinty and Nicole Henninger each singled and Katie Lynch walked to load the bases. Tedjeske followed with a bases clearing double to left center and scored on a Brianna Knipe double.

Arbogast retired the first 12 batters she faced in her relief effort, but a string of three straight hits by the Eagles made it a 7-6 game. Determined to keep the tying run stranded at third, Arbogast got a strike out and fly out to end the inning. Arbogast struck out the side in the top of the seventh to clinch the win and finish with nine punchouts.

The Golden Bears will take on Bentley and West Liberty State on Thursday afternoon beginning at 9:30 a.m.
