Golden Bears strong finish not enough in loss to Shippensburg

KUTZTOWN, PA (March 25, 2010) - The Kutztown University women's lacrosse teams late push came up short in a 14-8 loss to Shippensburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest at Keystone Field on Thursday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Golden Bears (1-6, 0-4 PSAC East) had a 4-1 run to finish off the second half, starting with a goal by Leann Pica with 13:32 remaining. A little over a minute later Emily Savini found the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season.

After several minutes of scoreless play between both teams, Amanda Bushong broke the lull by slipping a shot over the keepers head for a goal. Jen Dunne finished off the scoring with a goal at the one minute, 40 second mark.

The Lady Raiders used a strong first half to pull away from Kutztown, taking a 9-3 lead into the half time intermission. Katie Brewer scored three of her five goals in the first half.

Rachel Mehaffey had her hand in all of the Golden Bears first half scoring, with two goals and an assist on a Megan Schwar goal. Schwar recorded an assist on a goal by Pica to start the scoring out of the break, to give KU the opening score in each half.

Goalkeeper Karly Waltman finished the game with seven saves.

The Golden Bears will return to action on Saturday with a home PSAC crossover contest against Edinboro at 1 p.m. on Keystone Field.
