Henninger's stellar day leads to DH sweep over Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, PA (March 23, 2010) - Nicole Henninger enjoyed a four-home run day to help lead the Kutztown University softball team to a sweep over Millersville in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. (Game 1 Box) (Game 2 Box)

A two-run homer by Henninger capped a come-from-behind 6-5 win in the first game and her two solo shots were the difference in an 8-6 victory in the second game. The Golden Bears improved to 23-8 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC East, while Millersville fell to 11-10 and 0-2 in the conference.

Trailing 5-3, Maria Schiavo jump started the KU offense with a single and scored from first on a double by Katie Lynch. Henninger then strolled to the plate and belted her second round tripper of the game with two outs.

Katlin Arbogast overcame a rocky first two innings to fire her 15th complete game of the season and earn her 14th win. She struck out nine and upped her conference leading strike out total to 153. The Marauders jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but Arbogast composed herself and rifled five innings of shutout ball.

The Golden Bears chipped away at the five run deficit using the long ball to put up a three spot in the fourth. Henninger had a solo shot and two batters later Krista Tedjeske belted a two run homer to slice the MU lead to 5-3.

The second game saw lightning strike twice again for Henninger and the Golden Bear offense clubbed 14 hits.

Henninger had a pair of solo shots in the fourth and sixth running her season total up to nine, and record her third consecutive multi-homer game.

Tedjeske came through clutch with a two run single and Sarah Couch followed with a pinch hit three run blast to build a 7-2 lead in the fifth.

Monica Glomb picked up the win after going the first four innings and allowing just four runs. Arbogast worked the Golden Bears out of a fifth inning jam and finished off the contest to record the save. Over the final three innings, Arbogast struck out four batters and surrendered just two runs.

The Golden Bears will travel to Shippensburg on Friday for a PSAC East doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m., followed by their home opener against East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
