KU lacrosse rolls to win in home opener

KUTZTOWN, PA (March 20, 2010) - The Kutztown University lacrosse team had an offensive explosion with a 27-1 win over Erskine College on Saturday afternoon in its home opener at Keystone Field. (Boxscore)

The Golden Bears, who earned their first win of the season, had nine different players to record a goal.

Freshman attack Lindsey Crits found the back of the net five times in the first half and added a pair in the second for a team-high seven goals, which ties a KU single-game record.

Crits scored in every shot that she took, and has only one shot this season a goalie has actually stopped. She had her hand in more than one-third of the Golden Bears scoring, as she also dished out three assists.

Janice Kinney set up scoring opportunities all day, handing out four assists and added the final tally. The goal came easy after Ally Brehm drew the goalie out of the net and flipped the ball to Kinney, who was standing in front of the wide open cage.

The Golden Bears had a 19-1 lead at the intermission, with Jen Dunne adding all five of her goals in the first half. Emily Savini had four goals, while Leann Pica and Gina Carmina both recorded three. Pica had a game-high six draw controls.

Amanda Bushong recorded her first of two goals only two minutes, 10 seconds into the contest and Savini added a tally a mere 20 seconds later. With exactly 2:30 off the clock, the Golden Bears had already built a 3-0 advantage.

As the Golden Bears spent the majority of the time attacking on the offensive end, Karly Waltman was waiting for action in goal. In the second half, within the span of 40 seconds, Waltman made a kick save and denied an 8-meter shot to record her two saves.

"We had a very good transition game today," said head coach Sarah Greer. "We worked well as a team and it is something that we need to continue doing."

The Flying Fleet received their lone goal from Alesia Jerrelis. The Golden Bears also had goals from Kierstyn Mock and Bridget Bollendorf.

The Golden Bears will began their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play on Monday when they host East Stroudsburg at 4 p.m. on Keystone Field.
