SALISBURY, NC (February 27, 2010) – Katie Lynch (Willow Street, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) provided all the offense that the Kutztown University softball team needed to defeat Fairmont State, 3-2, on the second day of the Catawba tournament Saturday morning.
Lynch blasted a two-out three-run inning in the third inning to lift the 14th-ranked Golden Bears to their third consecutive victory. Pitcher Kaitlin Arbogast took care of the rest by tossing three innings of hitless relief to earn the save. Arbogast struck out seven batters during her impressive relief stint. Monica Glomb (Mars, PA/Mars) was the winning pitcher.
Maria Schiavo (Old Forge, PA/Old Forge) started the decisive inning for the Golden Bears with a double. After a pair of outs, Michelle McGinty (Warminster,PA/Archbishop Wood) kept the inning alive by drawing a walk setting the stage for Lynch's blast to left-centerfield. Fairmont State scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning before Arbogast slammed the door and helped Kutztown raise its overall record to 6-2.
Nicole Henninger (Reading, PA./Muhlenberg) also had a double for the Golden Bears during the game.
