Four wrestlers place at PSAC Championships

BLOOMSBURG, PA (December 4, 2010) - The Kutztown University wrestling team had four wrestlers place as they finished tenth at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships Saturday afternoon. (COMPLETE BRACKETS)

The Golden Bears were led by Ricardo Pena and Austin Williams (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) who each placed fourth in their respective weight classes.

Pena has had a terrific start to the season.  After going 5-1 in the season-opening ESU Open, Pena added two wins on Saturday including one pinfall in 3 minutes, 37 seconds against Ethan Saylor.

Williams placed fourth in the 133-pound division.  Williams, the No. 2 seed, started off with an impressive 12-1 major decision over Millersville's Mark Massimini.  He then defeated Kyle Felter before falling to eventual champion Nick Wilcox.  In the consolation bracket, Williams picked up a 5-2 win over John Fleming before falling to Evan Kolb by pinfall in a fight for third place.

Kyle Johnson (Stewartsville, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and Mitch Voelker (Shoemakersville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) also placed for Kutztown as they each secured sixth-place finishes.

After a first round loss in the 125-pound division, Johnson defeated Thomas Gowing 10-7 in the first match of the consolation bracket.  He then found his way into the fifth place match where he fell in a 9-3 decision.

Voelker also found success in the consolation bracket.  He ended his day with two wins, both of which were by decision.  In just his sophomore season, Voelker is beginning to show promise for the Golden Bears at the 141-pound division.

Also picking up a win for Kutztown was heavyweight Justin Grant (Easton, PA/Easton).  Grant secured a 12-2 major decision over Bradley Ladd before dropping a decision to Gannon's Stefan Tighe.

Kutztown returns to action next weekend as it travels to Springfield, MA to compete in the American International College Duals.
