KU impressive in 4-0 win over Mercyhurst

KUTZTOWN, PA (November 6, 2010) – Looking sharp at both ends of the field, the Kutztown University field hockey team defeated Mercyhurst 4-0 Saturday afternoon at University Field. (BOXSCORE)

The Golden Bears (10-7 overall, 4-4 PSAC East) had many contributors in Saturday's win, as they seemed to control most of the game. Sophomore Jenna Gregory had KU's first two goals of the game as she was determined to score on multiple rebounding opportunities. Gregory is now tied with Abbey Sheeler with a team-leading 10 goals this season. Gregory also leads the Golden Bears in points (28) and assists (8).

Also scoring in the first half was Kim Angstadt to help KU to a 3-0 lead at halftime. Junior Julie Rosenkaimer took advantage of her extended playing time as she was also able to score for Kutztown late in the second half.

Kutztown's high scoring offense has allowed head field hockey coach Betty Wesner to give both goalies playing time throughout the season. Emily Falko played her usual first half role as she had two saves. Sophomore Karly Waltman came in for the second half and was able to complete the shutout for Kutztown by adding three saves.

Midfielders Erin Reynolds and Emily Labowitz also played well and helped KU keep the ball in Mercyhurst territory for most of the game. Kutztown outshot the Lakers 24 to 5.

Playing well late into the season have been Allyson Moody and Adara Nowrey who received their first and third starts of the season on Saturday, respectively.

Kutztown continues play on Tuesday when it visits Shippensburg University beginning at 4:00 p.m.
