Kutztown bounces back in 93-55 victory over Wilmington

KUTZTOWN, PA (November 20, 2010) – The Kutztown University women's basketball team opened the home portion of its schedule in style by defeating Wilmington University 93-55 at Keystone Arena Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game.(BOXSCORE)

Kutztown (1-1) was led by senior forward Melissa McQuade (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler), who scored 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting. She also grabbed nine rebounds. She was perfect from the three point range shooting 4-for-4. McQuade increased her career scoring total to 1,196 points and rebounding to 735. She needs two rebounds to move past Rebecca Blose and into fourth place on the all-time list.

Also in double figures for the Golden Bears were Brittany LeVan (Centre Hall, PA/Penns Valley) and Ashley Wood (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford). LeVan scored 12 points and was 5-for-9 from the field. Wood picked up 10 points.

Everyone aided in Kutztown's victory as KU received points from all 14 players. Freshman Avery Hodgson (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional) got a taste of Kutztown's sweet victory as she and Steph Zewe (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) each had eight points. The Golden Bears opened up the game making their first five shots and never looked back as they kept the lead the entire game.

At intermission Kutztown led 46-22. Wood opened up the second half, sinking a three pointer and extending KU's lead to 27. Wilmington's Danielle Thomas was the frontrunner for the Wildcats with 20 points, but that wasn't enough as the Golden Bears continued to take control of the game.

Freshman Andrea Sisson (Richmond, VA/Godwin) scored seven points and seized four rebounds. Kutztown's performance was top-notch proving that everyone on their roster is an asset. KU bounced back from Wednesday's 83-61 setback to Holy Family and hopefully its momentum and team depth will continue with them throughout its season.

KU will return to action Tuesday, November 23 at 6 p.m.  as they host Goldey-Beacom.
