Golden Bears sweep at American International dual

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. (November 21, 2009)The Kutztown University wrestling team opened up its 2009-10 duals with a sweep over American International and Johnson & Wales on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Bears (2-0) were led by junior Chris Sheetz (Barto, PA/Upper Perkiomen) (Barto/Upper Perkiomen), who recorded pins in his first two bouts for KU. Sheetz, a transfer from Delaware Valley, pinned Michael Bastante of Johnson & Wales in 1 minute, 59 seconds. The 125-pounder followed that up with a pin in 1 minute, 41 seconds against Yellow Jacket Josh Rollins.

Austin Williams (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) (Pen Argyl/Pen Argyl), John Paukovits (Northampton, PA/Northampton) (Northampton/Northampton), Ricky Pena (Reading, PA/Reading) (Reading/Reading) and David Zeek (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) (Newtown/Council Rock North) each swept each of their matches.

Williams won 10-1 for a major decision over James Soprano and Johnson & Wales. Paukovits recorded a 17-1 technical fall win in his first match and a 10-5 decision out of the 141-pound weight class.

Pena edged out a 2-1 win over Johnson's Anthony Pierrio before posting a 7-4 victory against Sam Guavine.

Zeek had a pin in his first match at the 2:26 mark of the first period. The senior followed that up with a 8-0 major decision in his second bout.

Alex Depew (Wilson, PA/Northampton) (Wilson/Northampton) and Justin Grant (Easton, PA/Easton) (Easton/Easton) each recorded a pin for the Golden Bears.

Depew drew his pin 2 minutes, 24 seconds into the first period against Colin Lenhardt of Johnson & Wales, while Grant pinned International's Casey Hines at the 6:47 mark.

Tyler Stambaugh (East Berlin, PA/Bermudian Springs) (East Berlin/Bermudian Springs) recorded a 16-4 major decision win wrestling out of the 197 weight class.

The Golden Bears will return to action on Tuesday November 24 when they travel for a match against host Delaware Valley and Elizabethtown at 11 a.m.
