KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University women's lacrosse notched its first win of the 2009 season, topping Seton Hill 14-5 on Monday afternoon at Keystone Field.
Rachel Mehaffey (fr. West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) was one of three Golden Bears to net a hat trick in the non-conference matchup, scoring five goals and tallying two assists.
Carrie Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) scored four goals for KU (1-2) and Leeann Pica (fr. Levittown/Neshaminy) had three.
Healey opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 25:36 mark of the first half.
After the Griffins (2-2) tied it at 1-1, Mehaffey netted back-to-back goals for to push the lead to 3-1.
Julie Rosenkaimer (fr. Lansdale/North Penn) added one of her two goals on the day to extend the lead to 4-1. Healey finished off the first half scoring to give KU a 5-2 lead at the break.
Pica had the opening goal of the second half and finished with three on the day.
Healey added two more goals in the second half, and Mehaffey scored three straight KU goals to make it 11-3.
Goalkeeper Erin Myers (fr. Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) earned her first career win at KU, stopping nine Seton Hill shots.
The Golden Bears held a 43-29 advantage on ground balls and caused 14 turnovers on the defensive end.
KU will travel to Shippensburg for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division matchup at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
