KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team dropped its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East and 2009 season finale 25-4 against West Chester on Wednesday afternoon.
The teams joined efforts before the game to support Lax-4-Life, which helps to provide awareness for suicide prevention.
The Golden Rams (13-2, 10-0 PSAC East) got on the board with three early goals, all of which were assisted by Shannon Hayes.
KU cut into the lead on an unassisted goal by Carrie Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North). Healey finished the season with 32 goals, trailing only Rachel Mehaffey (fr. West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford).
Mehaffey scored 41 goals in her rookie season to lead the Golden Bears, but was held scoreless against West Chester. Mehaffey and Healey finished in the team lead in assists at 11 apiece.
Megan Schwar (fr. Alpha, N.J./Phillipsburg) scored the next goal for KU off an assist by Xiomara Marin (sr. West Patterson, N.J./Passaic Valley), who was on honored on Saturday for Senior Day.
Leeann Pica (fr. Levittown/Neshaminy) had the Golden Bears final tally in the first half, she finished the season third in scoring with 25 goals.
The Golden Bears were held to just on score in the second half. The goal was by Jennifer Natalini (jr. Pottstown/Pottsgrove) and assisted by Healey.
KU's season closes with a 2-13 overall record and 0-10 in its first year as a member of the PSAC East. The Golden Bears will be losing only two players to graduation.
