KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Leeann Pica (fr. Levittown/Neshaminy) scored four goals and had two assists as the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team's late rally came up short in a 19-16 loss to Gannon University Thursday at Keystone Field.
Megan Schwar (Alpha, N.J./Phillipsburg) netted a hat trick in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover, scoring all three goals during a 10-4 KU run in the final 16 1/2 minutes of the game.
KU (1-11) cut it to 17-13 with 6:28 left, but two quick tallies by Gannon (10-3) made it a six-goal game with 5:24 left.
Schwar scored once and Carrie Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) back-to-back goals in the final five minutes to cut it to 19-16.
Healey also recorded two assists in the game.
Rachel Mehaffey (fr. West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) finished with two goals — both in the first half — and Janice Kinney (jr. Spring City/Owen J. Roberts), Amanda Steczak (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville), Danielle Shore (jr. Souderton/Souderton Area) and Julie Rosenkaimer (fr. Lansdale/North Penn) each had one goal.
Rosenkaimer also tallied an assist.
Colleen Dixon scored seven goals and three assists, while Mary Eshenour and Krista Schunk each had four for Gannon.
KU will return to the field on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. PSAC East contest at Millersville.
