KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team fell 11-7 to Shippensburg University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East contest Wednesday at Keystone Field.
Rachel Mehaffey (fr. West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) scored three goals and had an assist for the Golden Bears (1-10, 0-7 PSAC East), who led 4-3 at halftime.
Mehaffey scored two goals, the opening tally and a goal with 17:47 left to make it 4-2.
Shippensburg (7-6, 4-3 PSAC East) scored four straight goals in the second half to make it 7-4.
Jennifer Natalini (jr. Pottstown/Pottsgrove) and Leeann Pica (fr. Levittown/Neshaminy) scored back-to-back goals to cut it to one at 7-6, but Shippensburg rebounded again, scoring two goals to take a 9-6 lead with 4:34 left.
Mehaffey scored again 30 seconds later, but another two goals put the game out of reach for the Golden Bears.
Carrie Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) also scored a goal and had an assist, while Julie Rosenkaimer (fr. Lansdale/North Penn) scored a goal.
Beth Long scored three goals for the Red Raiders.
The Golden Bears will host the Gannon Golden Knights in a PSAC crossover at 4 p.m. Thursday at Keystone Field.
