Kutztown falls short in double header to IUP and Cal

KUTZTOWN, PA (October 9, 2009) – Entertaining fans in a double header at Keystone Arena, Kutztown suffered two losses in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contests, competing against Indiana University of Pennsylvania and California University of Pennsylvania. Kutztown (8-8 overall, 1-7 PSAC) and IUP went head-to-head, flip-flopping the game wins to give fans an exciting five game showcase.

Kutztown dominated the first game winning 25-15. IUP collected themselves, winning Game Two 25-14. The Golden Bears responded with an exciting 28-26 win in Game Three that had fans cheering in the arena. Working as a team, IUP secured Game Four (25-22) and Game Five (15-10) for the match win.  


Kelsey Nester (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) and Katie Miller (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) (Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) combined for a total of 22 kills. Defending their side of the net, Jamie Celia (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) (Douglassville/Daniel Boone), Dana Wright (Warminster, PA/Saint Basil Academy) (Warminster/Saint Basil Academy) and Lindsey Smith (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) (Hanover/Delone Catholic) tallied 76 digs. Celia led the team with 29 digs, Wright earned 26 and Smith contributed 24.

Thirty-minutes after the first game ended, Kutztown faced undefeated PSAC rival, CAL, (18-4, 9-0 PSAC) losing all three games. After losing the first two games, the Golden Bears fought back hard, giving fans an exciting third game contest that ended in a two point difference. The Golden Bears lost  the final game 25-27.

Kutztown faces another double header on Saturday, Oct. 10 when they face PSAC rivals Clarion at 1pm and Slippery Rock at 3:30pm in Keystone Arena.
