Walk-off homers highlight KU's sweep of Shippensburg

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University softball team swept its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division contest with Shippensburg on Monday at North Campus Field.
The Golden Bears (30-6, 6-0 PSAC East) beat Shippensburg (15-12, 3-3 PSAC East) with walk-off home runs in each of the contests.
Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off 4-1 win against Shippensburg on Monday at North Campus Field.
With two outs, Kim Morrison (sr. Newmartket, ONT/Sir William Mulock) drew a walk and Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) kept the inning alive with an infield single. Fitzgerald then ripped the game-winner off of the scoreboard in right center field.
After allowing one run on two hits in the first, Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) held the Lady Raiders to only one hit the rest of the game. Arbogast struck out five along the way to pick up her 15 win of the season. She retired the final 17 batters.
The Golden Bears manufactured a run in the fourth to tie the score at 1-1. KU used back-to-back singles by Fitzgerald and Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONT/Sacred Heart) followed by back-to-back walks by Krista Tedjeske (so. Summerhill/Forest Hills) and
Michelle McGinty (fr. Warminster/Archbishop Wood) to force in the run.
Fitzgerald finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored. Cameron also collected a multiple hit game, going 2-for-3.
KU will travel to West Chester on Tuesday for a PSAC East contest at 2:30 p.m.
