KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University softball team swept its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division opener with Millersville on Wednesday at North Campus Field.
The Golden Bears (26-6, 2-0 PSAC East), ranked No. 12 by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), returned home after being on the road for 28 of the first 30 games of the seasons. Millersville entered the game with a 17-10 overall record.
Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton)had a game winning solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, her 12 of the season.
Heather Hannum (fr. Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) tied the score at 2 with a lead off homer in the fourth.
After allowing two runs in the first, only one earned, Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) settled in and shut out the Marauders for the remainder of the game. Arbogast allowed only three hits and struck out six to earn her 13 win of the season.
Maria Schiavo (jr. Old Forge/Old Forge) finished 2-for-3 and had an RBI single in the second inning.
KU will return to action on Friday to host East Stroudsburg in a PSAC East contest at 2:30 p.m. at North Campus Field.
