KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Rachel Wisemiller (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton Area) (jr. Hazleton/Hazleton) hit five 3-pointers as the Kutztown University women's basketball team won its 20th games of the season, defeating Bloomsburg 60-46 Saturday.
The 20th win is the most wins by KU since the 1999-2000 season, when Golden Bears head coach Janet Malouf led the team to a 21-6 record. The 10th Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East win also is a school record and the most since the 1999-2000 season.
KU (20-7, 10-4 PSAC East) was paced by Wisemiller's 15 points. Melissa McQuade (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) (so. Pittsburgh/Shaler) and Chauntelle Schroeder (Toronto, Ontario, CANADA/Mother Teresa) (jr. Toronto, Ontario/Mother Teresa Catholic) each scored 13 points. McQuade recorded a double-double, pulling down 11 rebounds. Schroeder had eight rebounds.
KU, which shot 40.7 percent, jumped out to a 29-22 lead in the first half and continued to pull away in the second, edging the Huskies (11-16, 3-11 PSAC East) 31-24 in the seconds half.
Colleen Kegerreis scored 14 points to lead Bloomsburg, which shot 28.6 percent.
With West Chester and Millersville winning Saturday, the Golden Bears will be the No. 3 seed and travel to No. 2-seeded Millersville for the PSAC quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday. West Chester will host No. 4-seeded Cheyney. The highest seed remaining after Tuesday's quartefinals will host the PSAC Final Four.
