KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Melissa McQuade (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) (so. Pittsburgh/Shaler) matched a career high with 30 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to set KU's single-season record as Kutztown defeated Cheyney 82-65 in PSAC East action Wednesday night's regular season home finale.
McQuade was 12-of-20 from the field, 4-of-6 from 3-point range and 2-for-2 from the line to match her career high of 30 points, set vs. Pitt-Johnstown early this season. Her 19 boards, also a career high, give her 259 for the season. She eclipsed the previous record of 251 by Missy Boettger in 1989-90.
Rachel Wisemiller (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton Area) (jr. Hazleton/Hazleton) scored 14 points and Meredith Starr (Richmond, VA/Monacan) (so. Richmond, Va./Monacan) had 11 for KU.
Martina Randall had 20 points for Cheyney. Angel Stephens had 15 points and 10 boards. Lutfiyya Muhammad scored 10.
The teams were tied at 32 at halftime, but KU erupted for 50 points in the second half. The Golden Bears shot 52.9 percent from the field in the second half, while holding the Wolves to just 29.9 percent.
With the scored tied at 44 with 14:11 to play, KU went on a 21-3 run to break it open. McQuade scored 10 points in the run.
Kutztown (19-7, 9-4 PSAC East) remains one game behind PSAC East leading West Chester and Millersville, both winners Wednesday night. Despite the loss, Cheyney clinched the fourth PSAC East playoff berth with Shippensburg's loss Wednesday.
KU closes the regular season at Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. Saturday.
