MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Rachel Wisemiller (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton Area) (jr. Hazleton/Hazleton) scored 23 points, but Kutztown's women's basketball team lost to Millersville 73-69 Saturday afternoon in PSAC East action.
Wisemiller hit 8-of-14 field goals, including six 3-pointers. She added eight rebounds. Melissa McQuade (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) (so. Pittsburgh/Shaler) scored 17 points and grabbed six boards. Chauntelle Schroeder (Toronto, Ontario, CANADA/Mother Teresa) (jr. Toronto, Ontario/Mother Teresa Catholic) rounded out KU's scoring leaders with 12 points.
Gladine St. Julien led the Marauders with 22 points. Jenna Philio scored 15 and Ashley Moyer notched 14.
Millersville's win avenged KU's victory over the Marauders last month and broke a three-way tie for second place in the PSAC East.
Kutztown nearly pulled off the victory, erasing a three-point deficit with 2:34 to play after Schroeder hit two free throws and a layup for a 69-68 lead with 58 seconds to play.
St. Julien's layup with 38 seconds left gave MU the lead back, and KU committed a turnover on its next possession. Dominique Stroman hit two free throws for a 72-69 lead with 20 seconds remaining.
A missed 3-pointer on KU's ensuing possession closed the door on the Golden Bears comeback attempt.
Kutztown returns to Keystone Arena on Wednesday for the start of a three-game homestand vs. West Chester. Tipoff will be at 6 p.m. on Faculty/Staff Dean's List and WBCA Pink Zone night.
