KU defeats Bloomsburg, 66-56

KUTZTOWN, Pa. Melissa McQuade (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) (so. Pittsburgh/Shaler) paced the Kutztown University women's basketball team's offense with 18 points in a 66-56 win over Bloomsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division matchup at Keystone Hall on Saturday.

McQuade also hauled in 15 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season.

The Golden Bears (15-4, 5-1 PSAC East) had 11-point performances from both Vivian Melvin (Chichester, PA/Chichester) (jr. Chichester/Chichester) and Chauntelle Schroeder (Toronto, Ontario, CANADA/Mother Teresa) (jr. Toronto, Ontario/Mother Teresa Catholic). Melvin also had eight rebounds.

KU trailed for the majority of the first half until a 3-pointer by Melvin gave a 30-28 advantage with 1:28 remaining, which was the lead at the halftime break.

The Huskies (8-11, 0-6 PSAC East) took a 35-34 lead with 14:50 in the second half before KU took the lead back for good. The Golden Bears outscored the Huskies 32-22 in the time remaining to secure their largest margin of victory in PSAC Eastern Division play.

Rachel Wisemiller (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton Area) (jr. Hazleton/Hazleton) and Meredith Starr (Richmond, VA/Monacan) (so. Richmond, Va./Monacan) each netted eight points. Wisemiller had four blocks and five rebounds for the Golden Bears.

The Huskies were led by Kelsey Gallagher with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Healey was next with 13 points and five boards.

The Golden Bears shot 36 percent from the floor and 33 percent from beyond the arc. Bloomsburg was 31 percent from the floor and 33 percent from 3.

KU will return to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a PSAC Eastern Division matchup at Cheyney.
