Golden Bears down Seton Hill

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (October 17, 2009) — The Kutztown University field hockey used goals from five different players to ease by visiting Seton Hill 7-1 on Saturday night at University Field in a nonconference contest.

Despite the pouring rain and chilly temperatures, the Golden Bears (11-6) kept their foot on the throttle the entire game. Courtney Zook (Oley, PA/Olley Valley) (Oley/Oley Valley) got the scoring starting at the 5 minute, 37 second mark of the first half. She added another goal late in the second half, with Carrie Healey (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) providing the assist.

Katie Brautigan (Bernville, PA/Tulpehocken) (Tulpehocken/Bernville) scored off of a penalty stroke, which proved to be the difference maker. Each of Brautigan's three goals this season have come off of penalty strokes.

Jenna Gregory (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) and Abbey Sheeler (Fleetwood, PA/Brandywine Heights) (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) hooked up to account for two of the Golden Bear goals. Gregory received a pass from Sheeler and faked the goalkeeper to add the goal. Sheeler in the second half ripped a shot into the left corner of the cage off a pass from Gregory.

Senior Lauren Solley (Oley, PA/Olley Valley) (Oley/Oley Valley) kept her hot season going with a goal off of a rebound in the first half. Her 13 goals lead the team.

Gregory capped off the scoring at the 62:18 mark to give her 10 on the season, which is second to Solley.

Emily Falko (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) pitched a shut out in the first half, making five saves before being pulled at the half. Karly Waltman (Birdsboro, PA/Twin Valley) (Birdsboro/Twin Valley) made three saves in the second half.

The Golden Bears find themselves in a must-win situation in their final two PSAC East contests to make the conference playoffs. The Golden Bears hold the playoff tiebreaker with East Stroudsburg in the event of the teams finishing with identical records.

KU will host Millersville on Tuesday October 20 at 7 p.m. on University Field and travel to C.W. Post on Saturday October 24 at noon to finish out the regular season.
