Kutztown University senior guard and Division II national player of the year candidate Stephen Dennis has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division player of the week for the fifth time this season.
Dennis helped the 21st-ranked Golden Bears (19-3 overall) enjoy a perfect week. In two games last week against Mansfield and Millersville, Dennis averaged 34 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 blocked shots, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals. In helping Kutztown beat Mansfield, 81-69, avenging an earlier defeat, Dennis scored 37 points on 14-for-21 shooting.
He finished the week by notching his third double-double of the season with 31 points and 10 rebounds in a 77-69 victory over Millersville. Dennis also added a career-high six blocked shots and four assists in the win over the Marauders. He has scored 30 or more points eight times this season. With 2,193 career points, Dennis is fifth on the all-time PSAC scoring list.
Currently, Dennis leads the nation in scoring (27.5 ppg.). In addition to leading the PSAC in scoring, Dennis is second in assists (5.0), fifth in steals (2.0), ninth in field goal percentage (54.5) and 12th in blocked shots (1.2). Dennis needs eight assists to become Kutztown’s all-time leader in that category. Already, Dennis holds the school record for points, field goals and free-throws.
