Melissa Furey completed her fourth year as an assistant coach of the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team in 2017.
In her last two years, KU has posted its best seasons since the program re-established in 2008. It won seven games and three in the PSAC in both 2016 and 2017, the most for KU since 2008. It had players set single-season records for draw controls and caused turnovers, while the team set records for scoring, assists, points, shots, shots on-goal, free-position goals and goals-against-average.

Furey came to KU from Upper Perkiomen High School, where she served as the head girls' lacrosse coach from 2007-13. She also served two seasons as the assistant girls' lacrosse coach at North Penn High School in 2005 and 2006, where she specialized in goalie training.

Furey is also part of the Lacrosse Evolution program in the Philadelphia area. She served as the director of the women's lacrosse program as well as the facility director for the King of Prussia site.

Furey received a Bachelor of Science degree from Ursinus College in exercise and sports science in 2004. At Ursinus, Furey played goalkeeper for the women's lacrosse team from 2001-04, earning team MVP in her senior year.

Furey also has experience as a health and physical education teacher in the Upper Perkiomen and East Penn School Districts, as well as field hockey coaching experience with the X-Calibur U-12 travel indoor team.
