Richard Burkett

Richard Burkett completed his fourth season with the Golden Bear football coaching staff in 2011.

Burkett, who coaches outside safeties, brings 39 years of coaching experience to KU. He came to Kutztown after serving as an assistant coach at Boyertown High School from 1996-2007. Prior to Boyertown, Burkett served three seasons as head coach at Reading Central Catholic High School (1993-95), compiling a 13-18 record. In 1989, Burkett spent one year as offensive coordinator at Susquehanna Township, followed by three years as defensive backs coach at Albright College (1990-93). From 1977 to 1988, he was a minor league football coach for the Harrisburg Cowboys and Ches-Mont Bandits. He was the head coach of the Bandits from 1981-88, compiling an 89-20 record with two championships. He began his coaching career at Susquenita High School, serving as an assistant coach/defensive coordinator (1972-76). Burkett is a graudate of George Washington High School in Philadelphia, and was a defensive back at what is now West Chester University from 1968-71. He graduated from West Chester in 1972.
