Drew Folmar completed his first season as the head football coach at Kutztown University in 2013.
Folmar holds an overall record of 4-7 at Kutztown, and a PSAC East record of 3-4. Folmar has directed KU’s offense and coached its quarterbacks since 2009. He turned the Kutztown offense into one of the most prolific units in NCAA Division II during his time at KU, and was introduced on January 23, 2013 as the Golden Bears new head football coach.
He coached a total of 16 All-PSAC East picks, two PSAC East Offensive Players of the Year, one Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-American, two Academic All-District selections and 15 PSAC Scholar-Athletes.
Â
This is Folmar’s first head coaching position and is the 15th head coach in Kutztown’s modern football history.
Â
Folmar, 35, arrived after the 2008 season and took a unit that ranked just 96th in scoring and 86th in total offense the season prior to his arrival and molded it into a dominant force in Division II. From 2010-12, his offense has never ranked lower than 12th in scoring offense and the team has finished 10th in total offense in 2011 and 2012. Also during this time, his offenses set single-season Kutztown records for points scored, most recently the 490 points by the 2012 team.
Â
Under his instruction, the Golden Bears have set numerous team records. The 2010 team had the greatest year in the 95-season history of the program, making the first playoff appearance in school history. Kutztown set a school record for wins (10), conference victories (six), points scored (466) and consecutive wins to start a season (nine). The Golden Bears also earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II Super Region I Playoffs.
Â
Many of those records did not last long.
Â
The next season, the Kutztown football program reached new heights. The Golden Bears won the first PSAC Championship in the 96-year history of the program, and won an NCAA playoff game for the first time. Kutztown earned the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Division II Super Region One playoffs and earned its highest ranking in school-history in 2011, peaking at No. 6 in the AFCA top poll. KU set a school-record for wins in a season (11), points (487), passing touchdowns (41), total touchdowns (68), rushing yards (2,576).
Â
Kutztown won seven games in 2012 and set another school record for points scored with 490. The offense ranked fourth in Division II in scoring at 44.5 points per game and was sixth in passing and 10th in total offense.
Â
Folmar was crucial in the development of the most highly decorated quarterback in school history, Kevin Morton. Under Folmar’s tutelage, Morton was twice named the PSAC East Offensive Player of the Year and was voted the Kutztown Male Athlete of the Year three times. A three-time All-PSAC East pick, he was a two-time regional finalist for the Division II Player of the Year Award, the Harlon Hill Trophy. Morton set nine game, season or career records at Kutztown and is fourth all-time in Division II in  passing touchdowns, 11th in passing yards and one of just 19 Division II players to have thrown for 10,000 yards and 100 touchdowns.
Â
Folmar was a record-breaking and hall-of-fame quarterback at Millersville University from 1997-2000, playing for legendary head coach Gene Carpenter. He graduated in 2001 with a degree in elementary education and a minor in athletic coaching. In 2013, Folmar was inducted into the Millersville Athletics Hall of Fame. He was a four-time All-PSAC East selection, three-time team MVP and two-year captain. In 2000, Folmar was a regional finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy. Folmar set Millersville career and single-season records for passing attempts, completions, percentage, yards, touchdowns and total offense.  The Marauders won 30 games during his career, including a 20-4 mark in PSAC East play, and went to the second round of the NCAA Playoffs in 1999.Â
Â
He began his coaching career in 2001 as a student assistant at his alma mater, assisting with quarterbacks and wide receivers and coached an All-PSAC East receiver. In 2002, Folmar coached quarterbacks and receivers at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The Mariners finished 8-3 on the year, advancing to the ECAC South Atlantic Championship Game.
Â
Folmar rejoined the Millersville football staff as the wide receivers coach in 2003, where he remained until the 2007 season. He was also the strength and training coordinator, academic coordinator and recruiter in various regions of Pennsylvania. While there, Folmar coached 2007 PSAC East Rookie of the Year Jamal Smith, along with two other all-conference selections.
Â
Prior to joining the KU coaching staff, Folmar was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of New Haven, helping to reestablish that football program during the spring and summer of 2008.Â
Â
In addition to his football career at Millersville, he spent the spring after his senior season as a pitcher on the Marauders’ baseball team. He then spent the spring of 2002 as a quarterback for the Legnano Frogs in Milan, Italy.
Â
Folmar, a native of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and his wife, Heather, have three children: a daughter, MacQuarrie, a son, Gavin, and a younger daughter, Tessa.
