Erika Barbera completed her third season as a student assistant coach with Golden Bear field hockey in 2023.
Barbera, who was recruited to play at Kutztown by head coach Marci Scheuing, joined the team in 2020, but her freshman season was canceled by the pandemic.
The Beach Haven, N.J., native still had a great year in the classroom, earning PSAC Scholar-Athlete honors, NFHCA National Academic Squad and Scholar of Distinction recognition and landing on the KU Dean's List following both semesters.
Due to a medical condition, Barbera was forced to step away from her playing career by the time the team was back on the field for the 2021 season. Her passion for the sport and her teammates kept Barbera involved, where she's become a vital part of Scheuing's staff.
Barbera, a psychology major who is expected to graduate in May 2024, has been named to the KU Dean's List six times.
