KUTZTOWN, Pa. – No. 15 Kutztown punched its ticket to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs Wednesday afternoon, rolling past Bloomsburg 20-5 at Keystone Field in a performance that showcased the program's historic season.
The victory marked the Golden Bears' 10th win of the season (10-5, 6-4 PSAC East), tying for the third-most wins in a single season in program history. Only the 13-win campaigns of 1982 and 2023, and the program-record 15 wins set in 2024 under head coach
Kristen Nicholson, stand ahead of this year's mark.
With the win, Kutztown clinched the third seed in the PSAC East and will travel to No. 2 seed Seton Hill in the West Division on Tuesday, April 28, for the PSAC Quarterfinals. The Golden Bears are ranked fourth in the Atlantic Region behind East Stroudsburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester.
The victory was a familiar script for the Bears, who dominated Bloomsburg (5-11, 3-8 PSAC East) 21-9 on the road back on March 25. And just like that first meeting, Kutztown put together a statistical masterpiece while reaching several historic team milestones.
With 20 goals on the day, the Golden Bears surpassed 200 goals for the season.
Katie Yocum (Hanover, Pa./South Western) led the charge with five goals and one assist for six points, becoming the latest Bear to hit a career milestone. Yocum surpassed 100 career points and now sits at 97 career goals. Her 48 goals this season tie for ninth all-time in a single season at Kutztown.
The Bears' nine assists pushed them over 100 for the season.
Lauren LaMorte (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) tied for the game high with two helpers, bringing her season total to 30, third all-time in a single season at Kutztown, and 59 for her career, good for fourth all-time.
Kutztown's 24 ground balls moved the team past 300 for the season, and
Summer Davis (Beach Haven, N.J./Southern Regional) led the way with a game-high six to bring her season total to 41. Most impressively, Davis recorded a career-high eight caused turnovers which ties for third-most in a single game in program history. The eight forced turnovers pushed Davis to 41 on the season, tying for fourth all-time in a single season and matching her 2025 total. Davis also paced the Bears with four draw controls, extending her team-leading season total to 36.
Along with Yocum's six-point performance,
Sammy Ruwet (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) put together a career day with a career-high six points on a career-high four goals and two assists.
Alexis Plesic (Hanover, Pa./South Western) added a hat trick, while
Maddie Wagner (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township),
Antonia Troilo (Laurel Springs, N.J./Sterling), and
Sophie Engelhardt (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) each scored two goals.
Madison Wenner (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) and LaMorte rounded out the scoring with one apiece as eight different Golden Bears found the back of the net.
Isabella Montuori (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) and
Olivia Lewis (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) contributed assists, giving Kutztown 10 total point producers.
In goal,
Marisa Bragg (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central) turned away nine shots, and the No. 15 Golden Bears' defense limited Bloomsburg to just one goal in each of the second, third, and fourth quarters.
The Golden Bears return home Saturday for a unique doubleheader. At noon, Kutztown will resume its suspended game against Shepherd from April 2, picking up with 39 seconds remaining in the second quarter and the Bears leading 9-2. Following the completion of that game, the Bears will host Shepherd for their regular-season finale at 2 p.m., with seniors being honored prior to the opening draw.
