NEW CASTLE, Del. – After several weeks off from competing, the 25th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team took the lanes at the New Castle Bowlerama, where the team bowled to a 4-1 record in traditional play on the first day of the Northeast Roundup, hosted by Wilmington (Del.) University, on Saturday.
The Golden Bears (52-28 overall) won three straight games to open the first day of competition, and after falling to a high-scoring Felician team, regrouped to take down Division I Merrimack, wrapping up a successful day.
Kutztown had a 971-717 win over Wagner and a 1008-968 win over Molloy before defeating Chestnut Hill, 875-811. Its lone defeat came in a 1039-914 setback against the Golden Falcons before defeating Merrimack 760-732 in the fifth and final game of the day.
The team was once again led by freshman
Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff), who turned in four games of 200-plus pins with a day high of 216 against Molloy. The game before saw fellow rookie
Isabella Hopper (Mifflinville, Pa./Berwick) notch the team's best mark of 223, one of three 200-pin games in the win over Wagner.
Sydney Snyder (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) also bowled a number of strong games, including a pair of 206-pin showings in the first two wins for KU.
In addition to the trio mentioned above, head coach
Angela Reynolds started the day with
Brooke Heimbach (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) and
Shelby Wunch (Easton, Md./Easton) in the lineup, and got freshman
Ashley Kuster (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) involved down the stretch.
The Golden Bears have one more day at the Northeast Roundup tomorrow, March 15, at the New Castle Bowlerama. The team will open the day against Mercyhurst before taking on Holy Family, Caldwell, and host school Wilmington (Del.), before competing in a placement match for the final contest of Kutztown's regular season.
