MOUNT JOY, Pa. – The 23rd-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team put up five 900-pin games on Saturday and bowled to a 945-924 victory over the Molloy Lions on the second day of the three-day Mount Shootout, hosted by Mount St. Mary's, at Clearview Lanes.
The Golden Bears (35-20 overall) collected its win over the Lions courtesy of a pair of 200-pin games from reigning East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week
Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and reigning ECC Rookie of the Year
Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York), who put up games of 235 and 226 pins, respectively. For the power tandem, it was one of their three 200-pin games on the day, performances that earned each of them a spot in the top 25 of the more than 100 competing bowlers.
Kutztown finished its Saturday in eighth place, opening the day with a 973-951 loss to Alvernia and concluding its day with losses to Howard (1014-984), No. 20 Bryant (976-923) and No. 9 Mount St. Mary's (1024-961), the latter of which sits third in the tournament standings.
Bogovic's stellar outing featured a day high of 247 against Alvernia and a 245-pin mark against Mount St. Mary's. Her 213.4 pinfall average places her 12th overall. Brenneman, who saved some of her best scores for the ranked matchups against Bryant (214) and Mount St. Mary's (208), finished with a 205.6 average, coming closely behind in 22nd-place. Senior
Shelby Wunch (Easton, Md./Easton) finished 36th with a 191-pin average on the day, while fellow fourth-year kegler
Sydney Snyder (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) rounded out Kutztown's four top-50 bowlers with a 42nd-place score of 184.6.
No. 8 Niagara, No. 22 Duquesne and No. 9 Mount St. Mary's are the top three teams, with two of the three squads having a bowler represented in the All-Tournament Team.
The Maroon and Gold will finish off its three-day outing with a trio of best-of-seven baker matches, starting against the Mercyhurst Lakers to decide its final standing of the weekend. Kutztown can reach as high as fifth place in the standings if it wins all three contests.
