Bowling’s Bogovic nabs third consecutive conference rookie honor

COLONIA, N.J. – After a strong finish at this past weekend's Mount Shootout for the No. 25 Kutztown University women's bowling team, first-year bowler Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) continued her reign over conference rookies, collecting her third consecutive Rookie of the Week award from the East Coast Conference, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.

Additionally, sophomore Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) was named to the ECC Honor Roll after playing a key supporting role in the team's successful three-day outing.

Bogovic continued her sensational start to her collegiate bowling career during a tough weekend of competition, one that pitted the Golden Bears against several teams recognized by the National Tenpin Coaches Association. It was no problem for the Mechanicsburg, Pa., native, as she finished 12th in a field of over 100 bowlers in traditional play, thanks in large part to a trio of 225+ pin games. She averaged 213.4 pins across the five matches and 21.32 pins per frame on a 90 percent fill clip.

She stepped things up in baker play, averaging 22.6 pins per frame on a 91.7 percent mark, helping the Golden Bears to a 7-1 mark across eight baker matches, including a 5-0 record on the first day.

Brenneman, the ECC Rookie of the Year from a season ago, finished 22nd in the field in her supporting role beside Bogovic. She posted a traditional game average of 205.6 pins on an 86 percent fill rate while securing strikes in more than half of her attempts on the second day. Her trio of 200-pin traditional games, with a day-high of 226, helped her sit as the second-best KU bowler at the tournament.

This is Bogovic's conference-leading third such recognition despite not playing for the entire first half of the season. For Brenneman, this is her third conference recognition of the season and second mention on the conference's Honor Roll.

Bogovic, Brenneman, and the rest of the Golden Bears (37-21) will be back in action at the Wildcat DII Invitational, hosted by the Wilmington (Del.) Wildcats, at Bowlero Turnersville in Blackwood, N.J., from Friday, Feb. 13, through Sunday, Feb. 15.
