DOUGLASSVILLE, Pa. – The Kutztown University bowling team secured their 50th win of the season at a dual meet against the Chestnut Hill Griffins Friday afternoon at Jay's Lanes in Douglassville, Pa.
The Golden Bears (50-37 overall) topped the Griffins (0-15) in traditional competition, 742-630, and followed with a 662-601 baker showing, keeping the team active amid a break between the Wildcat DII Invitational and their scheduled trip to the USBC Allen Park Sectional.
The traditional match featured a lineup full of underclassmen, headlined by first-year bowler Miranda Pielhau (Waretown, N.J./Southern Regional) leading the team with a match-high 160. Kutztown was aided to victory by sophomores Cassie Mockler (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and Natalie Conrad (Wyoming, Pa./Dallas) and freshmen Kylie Melloy (Cypress, Texas/Bridgeland) and Riley Sternik (Island Heights, N.J./Central Regional).
KU dropped their opening baker game 112-110 but put forth a 156-143 in game two to get even with the Griffins. They closed the match with a pair of wins in games four (146-129) and five (109-61) to conclude competition.
The Maroon and Gold reached the 50-win plateau for the fourth time under fifth-year head coach Angela Reynolds, securing the mark with a .575 winning percentage, the third-best win percentage of the Golden Bears under Reynolds.
The Golden Bears are set to compete next at the USBC Allen Park Sectional in Allen Park, Mich. (March 8-9) or at the Northeast Roundup in New Castle, Del. (March 15-16).
