Bowling wraps up Wildcat Invitational with pair of wins

NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Kutztown University bowling team claims two wins out of their three best-of-seven baker bracket rounds to finish competition Sunday at the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Wilmington (Del.) University, at the Bowlerama Lanes.

The Golden Bears (48-37 overall) took down Caldwell twice on Sunday, topping the Cougars four games to one before coming back and winning by a two-game margin in the final match of the tournament.

KU managed to weather the 232-pin game three from Caldwell in match one to pick up their opening victory, pitting them against No. 23 Felician for their second meeting of the weekend. In a back-and-forth affair, a 193-pin tie in game three and a 2-0 Kutztown run tied the series at three games apiece, forcing a tiebreaker game that the Golden Falcons won by six pins. The Maroon and Gold were sent back to face Caldwell, a contest Kutztown won in seven games after another tie in game three.

Head coach Angela Reynolds relied on a lineup of Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township), Sydney Snyder (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic), Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York), Madison Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) and Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) throughout the day, as the team bowled nine games of more than 200 pins with a day-high of 233 to open the day.

Kutztown finishes in fifth place on the weekend, posting an 8-5 record with a pinfall of 13,328 while splitting a pair of matches against No. 23 Felician, the highest-ranked opponent of the tournament.

The Golden Bears take the next weekend off before traveling east to Stratford, N.J., where they will compete in the three-day New Jersey Open, hosted by Monmouth University at the 30 Strikes Lanes, from Friday, Feb. 28 to Sunday, Mar. 2.
