Kutztown seeded third in Atlantic Region, draws Fairmont State in opening round of NCAA DII Championship

INDIANAPOLIS – The Kutztown University women's soccer team was seeded third in the Atlantic Region, as announced by the organization on Monday evening, and is set to return to Rockwell Field in West Chester, Pa., to face the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Atlantic Region Championship.

The Golden Bears (13-5-1 overall) will make its fifth straight appearance in NCAA Regional action and 14th trip overall, 13 of those coming under head coach Erik Burstein. Kutztown was the runner-up in the region in 2022 and claimed its lone Atlantic Region title in 2016, reaching the NCAA Final Four that season.

It will be the first meeting between the Golden Bears and the Falcons (16-1-3), the sixth seed of the tournament and Mountain East Conference champion. Fairmont State notched ten wins in conference action and ran the three-team table to win the tournament and clinch the conference's automatic bid.

Kutztown returns to West Chester after concluding the PSAC Championships this past weekend, earning a spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship game after a 1-0 win over Millersville, but fell 4-1 to Shepherd, who claimed the top seed in the region. West Chester University is hosting the three-game pod as the second seed, as the Golden Bears and Golden Rams could meet for the third time this season if each team defeats their Mountain East matchups in the first round.

In the Atlantic Region, top-seeded Shepherd earned a bye and will host the winner of No. 4 Gannon and No. 5 Bloomsburg in Shepherdstown, W. Va. West Chester will host up to the semifinal round, with the Atlantic Region Final taking place at Shepherd.
