KUTZTOWN, Pa. – A day after being voted the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's Defensive Athlete of the Week, freshman goalie
Tess Adolf (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence) of No. 2 Kutztown, reached the national level as she was tabbed the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II Defensive Athlete of the Week, announced Wednesday.
Â
Adolf had an important week in No. 2 Kutztown's toughest week of the regular season to date, helping her team win both games against two top-6 teams in the PSAC. In a 3-1 victory at No. 4 East Stroudsburg last Wednesday, Adolf finished with a season-high six saves, including a penalty stroke save that kept KU in front late in the fourth quarter. In the 2-0 win over No. 6 Bloomsburg on Saturday, Adolf stopped the only shot she saw on cage and secured the sixth shutout for the Golden Bears and her ninth win of her first collegiate season.
Â
The Golden Bears (11-0 overall, 3-0 PSAC) have set program records for both best start to a season and win streak with their 11th victory coming against the Huskies this past Saturday.
Â
Kutztown has a full week off between games, as it will next compete at IUP this Saturday, Oct. 11, at 3:30 p.m. The rest is certainly welcomed as the Golden Bears went toe-to-toe with two top-6 ranked teams last week and won both.
