KUTZTOWN, Pa. –
Steven Burkhardt (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) did a little bit of it all offensively to help No. 8 Kutztown football storm back and take down East Stroudsburg 27-21 on the road in its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Divisional game last Saturday night.
Â
The redshirt-sophomore running back was voted this week's PSAC East co-Athlete of the Week award, the first one of his career and the first for the KU offense this season.
Â
Burkhardt finished with career-highs in rushing attempts (22) and yards (96) and also tied a career-best with two touchdowns on the ground, while also adding a six-yard touchdown reception for a three TD night. All three of his scores came consecutively in the second and third quarters. His first tied the score, his second gave KU its first lead of the game and his third put the game into a two-score margin.
Â
He had a long run of 15.
Â
Burkhardt has rushed 47 times for 196 yards and four touchdowns so far this season. His four rushing TDs are tied for third in the conference and are the most out of any East Division running back.
Â
After back-to-back games on the road, Kutztown returns home and welcomes Bloomsburg to Andre Reed Stadium for its first home East game this Saturday, Oct. 5, at noon for Family Day.
