PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team fell victim to Chestnut Hill on Wednesday night at Sorgenti Arena by a score of 3-1 in one of their last matchups before diving into conference play.
The Golden Bears (0-12) put forth a strong performance in their second set victory, where they managed to hold off Chestnut Hill (5-3) from a late comeback attempt. Kutztown also pushed the opening set past 25 points and made a comeback in the final set before the veteran Griffins took the reigns and claimed both sets.
The freshman tandem of Christina Lockett (Gaithersburg, Md./Tuscarora) and Bryanna Carter (Abingdon, Md./Edgewood) led the attack for the Golden Bears, with each eclipsing 20 total attacks. Carter tallied eight kills, while Lockett contributed five kills and three total blocks.
Sophomore Sarah Hess (Landsville, Pa./Hempfield) played the veteran role on the night, recording the highest hit percentage (.455) while tallying 11 kills and five total blocks in defeat.
Kutztown opens conference play at East Stroudsburg on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m., before returning to Keystone Arena on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. for a non-conference battle against Caldwell.
