ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Kutztown University picked up a pair of victories and produced a 181.5 average across five Baker matches on its way to earning the No. 4 seed for double elimination bracket play on Friday at the East Coast Conference Women's Bowling Championship hosted by Roberts Wesleyan at AMF Dewey Garden Lanes.
The Golden Bears, which came up one win shy of reaching the conference championship mega match last season, secured wins over Adelphi (926-822) and Daemen (951-857), while falling to Bryant (906-845) and Mercyhurst (937-864).
Against Adelphi, KU (56-31) used a lineup consisting of
Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township),
Ally Sipe (York, Pa./Central York),
Alyssa Blood (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone),
Madison Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) and
Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) in a 104-pin victory. The Bears' beset game came in game two when they put up a 218.
Kutztown supplied a pair of 200 games with a 203 in game one and a 201 in game five in the win over Daemen.
Sydney Snyder (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) was part of
Angela Reynolds' lineup in the win, joining Hanaway, Blood, Brenneman and Sromovski.
Due to an uneven number of teams in the conference, Kutztown had a bye in the final qualifying round.
Meghan Ripley (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) teamed with Snyder, Sipe, Sromovski and Brenneman to bowl the Maroon and Gold's highest score of the day with a 952.
Bryant topped the standings with a total score of 4,741 and 189.6 average. Molloy ranked second at 185.0 ahead of Mercyhurst (184.9), Kutztown (181.5) and Roberts Wesleyan (181.4). Daemen (176.6), Adelphi (170.2), D'Youville (166.5) and St. Thomas Aquinas (138.6) completed standings.
D'Youville defeated St. Thomas Aquinas in the only round one double elimination bracket match of the day. Round two will kick off Saturday morning where the fourth-seeded Golden Bears will take on fifth-seeded Roberts Wesleyan.
