MOUNT JOY, Pa. -- Kutztown University women's bowling shook off a slow start to win three of its final four Baker matches as the Mount Shootout commenced Friday at Clearview Lanes in Mount Joy, Pa.
The Golden Bears posted a score of 4,422 (176.9 average) and currently occupy 12th in the team standings out of 16 teams.
Kutztown (36-18) made a late push in its opening match against Howard, winning two of the final three games, but the Bison held on for an 827-805 win.

Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) bounced back with an 887-851 win over Norfolk State to even their record on the day. A 199 in game one and a 197 in game four were high marks for the Maroon and Gold in the match.
Current leader and 13th-ranked Mount St. Mary's was executing all of its shots Friday. The Mount topped 200 in three games and 220 in two to defeat KU 1,001-870.
Kutztown kept its composure in crunch time against Chestnut Hill, using a 207-173 victory in game five to complete a 957-953 comeback win over the Griffins. The Golden Bears ended the day with a comfortable 903-790 triumph over Dominican (N.Y.) after starting the match with their high game of the day, a 234.
Host Mount St. Mary's raced to the top of the standings with 1,000+ scores in each of its five matches. The Mount's 216.3 average is more than six pins better than that of second-place and fourth-ranked North Carolina A&T (210.1). Mercyhurst (208.7), Niagara (208.5) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (203.2) make up the rest of the top five.
Kutztown lines up to face Alvernia, Coppin State, No. 4 North Carolina A&T, Lincoln Memorial and Saint Francis (Pa.) in traditional format matches on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
