Bowling reaches championship bracket, finishes fourth at Lady Eagles Invitational

WOODLAWN, Md. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team wrapped up competition at Coppin State's Lady Eagles Invitational, finishing fourth among 16 teams at the AMF Woodlawn Lanes on Sunday.

The Golden Bears (23-15 overall) held onto one of the four spots in the championship bracket with a pair of wins over Coppin State (962-907) and Norfolk State (959-850), but dropped the best-of-seven baker bracket rounds against Felician (4-2) and 12th-ranked Mount St. Mary's (4-1). They conclude their weekend with a 5-4 record, toppling 6,708 pins over the first seven matches for a 958.3 average per contest over the two-day tournament.

The first two baker rounds featured scores close to the team's weekend average, as each match was aided by a pair of 200-pin games that put the Maroon and Gold over the top of their opponents.

KU ran into trouble in the championship bracket, dropping the first round to a Felician team that boasted the weekend's best bowler in Mackenzie Keane, while ending the weekend against a top-15 Mount St. Mary's squad despite rolling a pair of 200-pin games.

Sunday's rotation featured Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township), Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) and Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) in key spots of the lineup, as juniors Sydney Snyder (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) and Shelby Wunch (Easton, Md./Easton) provided breathers down the stretch for the starting group.

The Golden Bears head on a hiatus for the rest of the semester, but will make their return in 2025 at the Northeast Classic, hosted by Sacred Heart University at the Bowlerama Bowling Lanes in New Castle, Del. The three-day tournament takes place from Jan. 17-19, 2025, and regularly draws some of the nation's best college bowling teams to open the new calendar year, making it one of the toughest outings Kutztown will compete in this season.
