KUTZTOWN, Pa. –
Jessica Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and
Megan Doyle (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) combined for two goals and
Mia Kepler (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) recorded a shutout in the cage as No. 3 Kutztown completed its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference portion of the regular season schedule with a 2-0 win Wednesday night over Millersville at Andre Reed Stadium.
Â
With the victory, the Golden Bears (12-4 overall, 6-3 PSAC) clinched at least the three seed in next week's PSAC Tournament and would host a quarterfinal round game on Monday. They can still earn the two seed and a bye to the semifinals if East Stroudsburg loses to IUP on Friday, Nov. 1.
Â
It was the sixth goal of the season for both Traynor and Doyle, tied for second-most on the team.
Â
After a scoreless first quarter,
Marlee Fetrow (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) sent a pass into the box from the center that took a deflection off the stick of Traynor for the game's opening goal with 6:33 left in the second quarter and the two teams went into halftime with KU ahead 1-0.
Â
Then, late in the third quarter, Doyle gave her team some much needed cushion after she took a pass from
Greenleigh McGehee (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) and found the back of the cage for the second goal of the game with 1:03 remaining in the third.
Â
Kepler earned her third shutout of the season and first since Oct. 5, against IUP. She finished with one save and saw two shots, to Kutztown's 15. KU also held a 15-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Â
Kutztown will finish up the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 2, hosting Roberts Wesleyan in a non-conference game on senior day at 11 a.m., from Andre Reed Stadium.
