KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Three different wide receivers caught touchdown passes,
Nate Millard (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) drilled a program-record 50-yard field goal and the defensive unit caused a season-high five turnovers and recorded the second shutout of the season as fifth-ranked Kutztown blanked Lock Haven 24-0 Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Divisional game at Andre Reed Stadium.
Â
The victory is the sixth in-a-row for the Golden Bears, who remained undefeated to start the regular season at 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Â
Judd Novak (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central), who leads the PSAC in touchdown passes on the year with 13, had his hand in all three scores Saturday. He completed a 30-yard touchdown pass to
Noah Kracyla (Townsend, Del./Middletown) on KU's opening offensive possession to give his team the early lead. Then, just 0:51 into the second quarter,
Kurtis Ravenel Jr. (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) caught a 21-yard pass into the endzone for a 14-0 lead.
Â
Program history was made with just under a minute to go in the second quarter as Millard lined up for a long kick and connected on a 50-yard field goal, the longest kick since Emerson Johnson hit from 48 yards away on Oct. 1, 1994.
Â
After a scoreless third quarter, Novak went into play action near the goal line and found
Luke Maxwell (Estell Manor, N.J./Delsea Regional) for a two-yard touchdown 0:44 into the fourth quarter to cap the scoring in the contest.
Â
The Maroon and Gold defense quietly continued to take over games. The unit, which leads the conference allowing just 8.5 points per game, came away with three interceptions by three different Golden Bears, two sacks and two forced fumbles that were recovered by KU.
Â
On just the second play from scrimmage,
Lee Coleman (Salem, N.J./Salem) picked off Jackson Ostrowsky to set the tone early on.
Drew Hensor (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) and
Khi'on Smith (Deptford, N.J./Deptford Township) had the other two INTs.
Jake Davis (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh), who was named co-player of the game, along with Kracyla, finished with four tackles (one for loss), one sack, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Eden Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Governor Mifflin) led the Golden Bears with five tackles.
Mikey Gray (York, Pa./William Penn) also recorded the first sack of his collegiate career.
Â
Novak went 20-for-33 for 241 yards and three TDs.
Jaedyn Stewart (Newfield, N.J./Delsea Regional) led the running backs with 17 carries for 84 yards. Ravenel Jr. and Kracyla both caught six passes for 79 yards and 76 yards, respectively.
Trevor Amorim (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) had three receptions for 53 yards.
Â
After back-to-back home games, Kutztown hits the road for its first away contest in Oct., and will take on Shippensburg next Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m.
