McKee picks up trio of wins as Golden Bears fall at East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- Gracie McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) swept the 100- and 200-yard backstroke and claimed the 200-yard individual medley as Kutztown returned to the pool for the first time in 2024, Saturday, falling in a PSAC dual meet at East Stroudsburg, 157-104.

McKee once again bested PSAC cut times in all three of her individual events. The Gilbertsville, Pa., native went 1:00.52 in the 100 back to win by more than four seconds over ESU's Jenna Johnson and laid down a 2:13.89 to outpace Johnson by more than eight seconds in the 200 back.

McKee, a five-time PSAC medalist, capped her afternoon with a 2:13.88 in the 200 IM, leading teammate Annamarie Rodier (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) (2:19.23) in a 1-2 finish for the Golden Bears (5-4, 4-3 PSAC).

Rodier was the only other KU swimmer to collect a win against the Warriors, doing so with an 11:12.66 in the 1000 freestyle. The sophomore from Mount Laurel, N.J., finished runner-up in the 500 free (5:29.26), the aforementioned 200 IM and anchored the Bears' second-place 200 free relay team (1:44.06).

Kutztown featured a handful of second-place finishers on the day, in addition to Rodier's three, including Tantum Rothermel in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.63), Frannie Pease-Wingenter (Goodyear, Ariz./Millennium) in the 50 free with a PSAC cut time (25.57), Trinity Miller (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) in the 100 free (58.28) and Birta Smaradottir (Mosfellsbær, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) in the 200 breast (2:37.98).

The Golden Bears placed second in both the 200 medley relay (1:53.99) and 200 free relay.

Kutztown will travel to Lock Haven next Saturday to conclude its dual schedule.
