Gonzalez’s third quarter goal sends No. 4 Kutztown to victory against Bentley

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) netted her third goal this season in the third quarter to break a 0-0 deadlock and proved to be the game winner of a 1-0 non-conference win for fourth-ranked Kutztown over Bentley Friday evening at Andre Reed Stadium, after weather pushed back the initial start time twice.

The Golden Bears (4-0 overall) remain unbeaten and have won all four games via shutout, outscoring their opponents 16-0. The defensive unit still has not allowed a shot on cage, allowing senior goalie Mia Kepler (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) to earn her fourth shutout win in as many games.

After a scoreless first half, Gonzalez took matters into her own hands. In the 33rd minute, the forward ripped a shot that rose high above the glove of the Falcons (1-2) goalie, Mia Trottie and past her into the upper-90 portion of the cage. She led the Maroon and Gold with four shots, as they outshot Bentley 12-1 and 6-0 on cage. Gonzalez had half of KU's shots on goal. It was her third goal in the last two games.

KU also had eight penalty corners and did not allow one.

Kutztown is back out on the Andre Reed stadium turf in a quick turnaround tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 8, for a 3:30 p.m., non-conference game against Mansfield.
