BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Kutztown women's lacrosse played a strong second half in erasing a halftime deficit to take down Bloomsburg on the road 16-11 Wednesday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Divisional game.
The Golden Bears (6-1 overall, 3-0 PSAC) have now won their first three games of conference play for the first time since the 1984 season.
Lailah ElBouazzaoui (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) led the KU attack with a career-high six goals, tied for fifth-most in a game in program history.
Emma Meakim (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) finished with two goals and six assists and
Olivia Eilbacher (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic),
Sam Graf (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) and
Katie Yocum (Hanover, Pa./South Western) each tallied two goals for Kutztown, which outscored Bloomsburg (4-4, 1-2) 8-2 in the second half, including 4-0 in a decisive third quarter that saw KU bounce back from a 9-8 deficit at halftime. The Maroon and Gold fell behind 7-3 after the opening quarter, but scored three in-a-row and five-out-of-six to close out the half.
KU began the third quarter by netting four goals in-a-row by Graf, Meakim, Yocum and
Shannon Lake (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford). That was all of the scoring in that period. The Huskies answered with a goal 0:21 into the fourth quarter to cut their deficit to 12-10, but that was the closest they would get the rest of the way.
Jenna Blesson (Sparta, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) started the game in goal and made seven saves, earning the victory.
Marisa Bragg (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central) stopped one Bloomsburg shot in 9:55 of action.
Morgan Hurd (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) rounded out the scoring for the Golden Bears.
Kutztown has the weekend off and will next play a week from today, next Wednesday, March 29, against nationally-ranked West Chester. The Morgan's Message game is scheduled for 4 p.m., from Keystone Field.
