NEW CASTLE, Del. – Kutztown women's bowling earned two wins, including a sudden death victory in the fifth game of the opener against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Mercyhurst, to highlight day one Saturday of the Griffin Baker Classic in New Castle, Del.
The Golden Bears (25-23 overall) also defeated Felician in the fifth match of the day.
It was the first time KU was out on the lanes since Jan. 22.
In the opening match, Kutztown and Mercyhurst split the first four games, with KU winning the first and third and the Lakers taking the second and fourth, to set up the deciding fifth game to take the match. The Maroon and Gold had to be on top of their games, and they were just at the right time, scoring a high of 242 to Mercyhurst's 216, and won the match 936-931.
The Golden Bears dropped the next three matches to Caldwell, Merrimack and Molloy. KU finished the day with an 893-688 victory over Felician.
The Maroon and Gold sit in 11th with a score of 4,406 in the baker format and an average of 176.2
Kutztown opens day two of the Classic tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 5, at 9:30 a.m., against Holy Family.
