Women’s cross country wraps up season with 10th-place finish at NCAA DII Atlantic Region Championship

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --The Kutztown University women's cross country team wrapped up the 2023 campaign with a 10th-place finish at the NCAA DII Atlantic Region Championship, hosted at Lock Haven Saturday morning.

Erika Moriarty (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) paced the Golden Bears and just missed out on her third All-Region honor of her career with a 31st-place finish, crossing the line with a time of 22:20.3. In her first appearance at the regional championship, sophomore Deandra Young (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) came across the line in 42nd.

Shortly behind Young was the duo of Jaelyn D'Amelio (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) and Ana Fratanduono (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) in 44th and 46th. It's D'Amelio's best career finish at the regional championship, matching her 2021 finish in 44th, but with a better time of 22:41.2. It was the first career appearance at this meet for Fratanduonon.

Madeline Barney (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills), Julianna Elsesser (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), and freshman Sage Dunkleberger (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) rounded out the Golden Beras that competed at Lock Haven on Saturday.

Charleston (W. Va.) captured the team championship with 74 points, followed by Slippery Rock and Davis & Elkins. Those three squads qualified for the NCAA Championships later this month. Kylie Anicic of Edinboro was the individual top finisher with a time of 20:19.2.

The Golden Bears end 2023 with three top-three team finishes during the regular season and a ninth-place finish at the PSAC Championship.
