Golden Bears earn third-place finish at BU Invitational

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Erika Moriarty (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown), Jaelyn D'Amelio (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional), and Deandra Young (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) turned in top-11 finishes as the Kutztown University women's cross country team finished third at the Bloomsburg Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Moriarty battled her way to a fifth-place finish with a time of 23:53.4, while D'Amelio came across the line in tenth. Deandra Young (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) was not far behind D'Amelio, earning 11th place just two seconds behind D'Amelio. Ana Fratanduono (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) was the other Golden Bear to finish in the top 20, with a time of 24:29.2 for an 18th-place finish.

Madeline Barney (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills), Sage Dunkleberger (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run), Julianna Elsesser (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), and Fiona Buffington (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) were the other runners to finish for KU on the day, with none of them finishing lower than 55th.

Lock Haven won the race with a team score of 42, led by the top individual finisher Elaina Klinger. Hosts Bloomsburg came in second with a team score of 66, only four points better than Kutztown. Millersville finished four points behind the Golden Bears in fourth place.

The Golden Bears now turn their attention to the postseason and the PSAC Cross Country Championships. That race will take place on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Bloomsburg.
