KUTZTOWN, Pa. –
Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) and
Breann Craley (York, Pa./Central York) combined for three first-quarter goals to help third-ranked Kutztown Field Hockey defeat ninth-ranked Bloomsburg 3-0 Wednesday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup of nationally-ranked teams at Andre Reed Stadium.
Â
Gonzalez tallied two goals and now has six on the season, while Craley recorded her team-leading seventh goal on the year. The Golden Bears (8-1, 3-1) have now won two games in-a-row both in the PSAC and overall.
Â
Gonzalez's first goal of the game came within just 0:55 of the opening whistle. Her second of the night followed Craley's tally with just 0:21 left in the first quarter to help stake KU to a 3-0 lead that lasted through to halftime and to the end of the game as the Maroon and Gold defense held the Huskies (8-3, 1-3) without a goal and earned their eighth shutout. All eight wins this regular season have been via the shutout.
Â
Craley's goal in the 12th minute was assisted by
Juliana Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Schalick), her team-high seventh this season. The junior ranks second in the conference in assists.
Â
Mia Kepler (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) finished with one save in the cage for Kutztown, which outshot Bloomsburg 12-2 overall and 6-1 in shots on goal. KU also held a 7-1 penalty corner advantage.
Â
Kutztown will host Coker in a non-conference game this Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., from Andre Reed Stadium. KU will then welcome nationally-ranked and unbeaten in the conference, Shippensburg, next Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m.
