LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – For the second time this season, this time on the road, the Kutztown women's volleyball team defeated Lock Haven in straight sets in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division match Saturday night at Thomas Fieldhouse.
Â
The Golden Bears (9-14 overall, 2-8 PSAC East) won by scores of 25-21, 25-22, 25-22. They snapped a three-match losing streak and earned their second conference victory, staying alive in the hunt for a postseason berth. KU also defeated the Bald Eagles back on Oct. 14, in straight sets at Keystone Arena. The Maroon and Gold have won the last four matches overall against Lock Haven (10-9, 4-6), all in straight sets.
Â
Sadie Doss (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) led the attack with a match-high 15 kills and added four digs and three blocks.
Gabriela Fialova (Ledec nad Sazavou, Czech Republic/Sportovni Gymnazium Ludvika Danka) tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs, while also adding two service aces and one block.
Sarah Hess (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) had five kills, three aces, two blocks and one dig.
Cat Farole (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) contributed 28 assists and nine digs.
Grace Ingram (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) recorded five kills and three blocks and
Gianna Agosti (Nesquehoning, Pa./Marian Catholic) finished with 11 digs and five assists.
Â
KU trailed early on in all three sets and had to rally to take the lead and hold onto it. It's biggest deficit of the night was 7-1 in the second set, as it raced back to win and take a 2-0 lead. In the third and deciding set, the Golden Bears were knocking on the door of a sweep, ahead 23-15, but the Bald Eagles scored seven points in-a-row to pull to within just one. But the tag team of Doss and Fialova connected on back-to-back kills to finish the match off.
Â
Kutztown is back in action with two conference matches in back-to-back days next weekend in the final home matches of the season. KU will first host West Chester next Friday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m., and then will welcome Millersville to Keystone Arena for a 1 p.m., match. The Golden Bears will close out the regular season the following weekend with two road matches, at Shepherd on Friday night and then at Shippensburg the following afternoon.
